Auxiliary Window Overview

When you click on the Course Notes, Appendix, Units, Help, or Your Messages buttons, a new browser window will open. The new window will probably be smaller than your original one and will only have limited controls (no toolbars at the top.) You can move or size it in any way that you want.

There are two ways to deal with this additional window. You can read the information and then just close the window. A Close Window button may be provided at the bottom of the contents or you can just close the window as you would any other browser window. When you close the window, your original OWL window will again be completely visible and active.

If there is information in the window that you’d like to continue to view as you work through an OWL assignment, you can keep both windows open and work with them simultaneously. To do this use the following:

·    Resize and move each of the two windows (OWL regular and auxiliary) so that most or all of their contents can be viewed at the same time.

·    Toggle back and forth between the two windows by clicking in either the original OWL window or the auxiliary window with your mouse. In this way, you can alternatively view the contents of each.

·    If one window gets "lost" behind the other, you’ll need to use your operating system controls to find it. (On a PC, click on the appropriate task bar button at the bottom of your screen.)
